First post! Let me give a bit of background on myself.
I have 15 years experience in the reptile hobby, 5 years in fish, and about 7 years experience in building successful planted vivariums and aquariums.

However, I've never worked with invertebrates, and have recently fallen in love with vampire crabs. I have an old 55 gallon aquarium, with a dirt backdrop in it with plant holders. I'd love to turn it into a paludarium. Maybe a flooded driftwood forest with a pond.
But every vampire crab tank I see is quite a bit smaller... is 55 gallons too much room? Are tank mates an option? I've of course seen shrimp go in with them, and I have several neocardinas I'd love to see swimming about in a pond.
Heavily planted? Sparse? If you have experience in vampire crabs, I would love all the information you can give me.

These little guys have been on my radar for about 10 months. I have been reading up on them and it seems what I have seen is fairly generic. I follow a couple guys in IG one in particular which has lovely VCs and various varieties. All seem to be in much smaller paludariums and vivariums.

But as far as building a lovely paludarium, if the tank is 12 inches front to back, it might be a bit thin to work in a long land space / width of the tank space for land and water. If you did more of an angle where one end was more land and one area at the other end could be the water, the building and care of it might be easier.

There have been a few lovely paludariums featured here over the years, you can use the search function and see some
WYrenegade and mumma.of.two

The VCs are more land lovers than spending time living in the water.

What are you thinking of doing with it?!!!

I adore the cute little Geosesarma (lots of varieties) and will love to see your build!!!

While I was looking it up, I added a few builds, many more in the search section.
