Looks like a syphon break. I may be wrong though, I'm still new to the plumbing aspect myself.

If the water line lowers below that point, in the case of a power outage, then your siphon will break and stop water from flowing to your sump, preventing an overflow/flooding.

Oh ok so its good right? Anyone know a good fairly cheap skimmer (around 100$) that would work for this tank? The area for the skimmer is 9 inches.

Definitely good.

I'll let someone else chime in about the skimmer. I'm no expert, but I know if there's a piece of equipment to invest well in, it's definitely the skimmer.

Alright hope someone else knows of good ones. Looking to try and not spend a fortune on this tank but i know its coming lol. The last tank was around 3,000$ as it was even though i got the tank and some other things for cheap off craigslist.

My best lfs is moving stores from 17 miles away to just within 2. They are haveing a 10% sale on all fish and are haveing a big sale on some of their supplys too. Wish i could have the tank up already so i could get in on this 10% off deal lol.

Gonna head over there today to see if i can get the mag7 for a cheap price and maybe a skimmer while im there.

Well went to the lfs today looking for the skimmer and the pump and came out with 8lbs of live rock, a seaclone150 HOB skimmer for the 60g, 20lbs of live sand, and a marineland 6g full moon which im gonna make a nano reef. Got the skimmer for 65$ lol, they needed to get rid of it because no one else wanted it so i got it! :D. Happy with my purchase today

The seaclone skimmers are one of if not the lowest end skimmers on the market. Mine crapped out on me after two months and never really pulled anything. I've switched to an eshopps and it works 1000 times better.

Man thats a bumber... The guy at the lfs said that they are good but just have micro bubbles. Does anyone else have them?

Check out some reviews online. I read a few and some were actually surprised compared to the negative reviews it got. You can always play it safe and return it, if possible, and dish out a little more and pick up a more notable skimmer.

Well i did read some reviews and found out how much of a piece of crude it is. What is a cheap but reliable skimmer around this price retail (140$)

Lt me rephrase the Q, are there any good reliable protein skimmers that are within 150$??? I am in a little pickle with this protein skimmer and need some help!

I run the NWB150 on my 55 reef and 20 sump. I like it, but you could get away with a smaller version probably. Mine doesn't constantly skim because it is quite oversized for my system.

Jesus...that is double the size of mine! 400 gallons. You're moving in the opposite direction of size. Mine would work well on your system, but to fit your budget listed just take a step down.
