I'd like to get a dwarf cichlid for my 36gal tank, any recommendations for a beginner?

I'd like to get a dwarf cichlid for my 36gal tank, any recommendations for a beginner?

I would try keyholes, technically not dwarf cichlids but some of the closest things to them and a lot more hardier than a GBR or apisto IMO.

There are a number of possibilities, including laetacaras, boliviam rams, Kribs and Rainbows, although they aren't really dwarfs.
