Adult Convict Coloring

Have a question on coloring for adult convicts. I have seen a number of pics on the internet where they look quite black/blue stripes. Even the few pics I have taken of mine tend to have a slight blue to them, but these visually do not look blue.

Will they take on more color as they age or do they always appear as black stripes/spots on white?

Just to clarify, these are all males.

I believe it's a lighting phenomena in photo's that enhance very subtle blue shading.
 
Males are typically grayish white with black stripes, but in prime condition can look bluish with black stripes. If they are looking really blue in pics, it's probably the lighting.
