I've just brought a tank that has one of those temperature strips, I prefer to use my electric temperature device how can I remove the strip without leaving a sticky mess

If you do not want to use a razor, you can tear off the shiny temperature gauge part, soak a cloth in hot water, and then hold it on the residue for a few seconds. That should take most of it off. For the rest, just dip a rag in some baby oil and rub over the residue until it is gone. Razor blade works quicker though.

Another thing that works, but that I would not recommend if the sticker is close to any siliconed joints (ie, where two panels of glass meet in the corner of the tank), is to use a hair dryer. Heat the sticker up evenly until it's hot to the touch (a few minutes) and it should come off without too much mess. I used this to get the "warning" and "safety" stickers off my bike.
