I mix my water and aerate for a day in 5g buckets.
I have been covering the bucket with a lid to contain the spray off, does this affect the gas exchange or anything? Am I better leaving the lid off?

I put my lid on like 3/4 of the way. somewhat protects the water from dust/stuff getting in, and somewhat protects from splashing out, but still allows for good gas exchange. I do think it's important to allow for good exchange, and in a bucket, especially one that is very full with little air volume, you're probably not getting much exchange occurring.

I keep my lid on. I have three dogs inside and if I leave it partially off I would have alot of hair in there. I just stir it up really good before I add.

I have the lid (loosely) then let it aerate for a while before using. But that's only for my QT tank. Otherwise I use the QT tank to mix my PWC.
