Hi there. My 4 year old female albino African clawed water frog has one swollen thigh. Not discolored, she is active and eating. She has a male about the same age in the tank with her. No eggs yet this spring, which is a bit unusual. Any advice? Watch and wait? Treat tank? Would I need to remove the other frog? Thanks so much for any help. I attached photos - hopefully you can view them.

The water was getting murky, so I changed it. It seemed to be sudden onset. No obvious injury. She’s active and eating. But no eggs and the male isn’t attaching which is odd for them in spring with a water change. I don’t monitor the water temp.

Thanks for responding.

Keep up on water changes. There is a possible link with the water quality. Keep it changed frequently as clean water is a number one help for a borderline sick fish. The link for the article referenced a bacterial infection which causes problems in the thigh.

If doing frequent water changes like every 2-3 days, is there a filter and is the filter pad cycled. Do you change and replace the pads or rinse with tap water which has not been treated with dechlorinator?

If you have any questions on the nitrification cycle check out the article in my signature link for starting out.
