They are from the island off the coast, (Madagascar). They are much like a NW that needs a bit of vegetation(pellets/flake) maybe once a week.

Gold fish and tropicals shouldn't be together. I hope you have a sump and a couple cans. That stock is siiiiiick...

So you have a buenos aires tetra, 2 rosy barbs, 5 comet goldfish, and all those cichlids now?

And btw, a Polleni, AKA black diamond cichlid, is a Madagascan cichlid, not a west african, not a rift lake. It falls in it's own category, seeing as madagascar is a very isolated island, both by physical means, and evolutionary means. These fish may have shared the same ancestors as the rift lake cichlids, and the west africans, they have been isolated for so long that the developed traits to better suit their needs on the island. They are indeed more like south/central americans than the rift lake species.

I agree. What a disaster your going to have. Those poor fish. You need to research your fish requirements. Some of those species are only fit to have 2 of in 150 gallons

I keep a red jewel with my Americans it only works cuz jewels are just as aggressive they are from rivers in west Africa not rift lakes so they don't like high ph and hardness other Africans do and they can eat same foods

I have the same thing. In glad you said that because I bought the jewel as a juvi not even know what it was... And then I figured out it was African and I felt bad.
