After seeing the filter floss thread...

I went out and bought filter floss at Petco; a large bag of filter floss for $3.49. I have a Penguin mini filter, and it uses cartridge Rite Size A. Here's a video showing where I placed the filter floss:

The water flow seems to be fine, although, i had to take some floss out for the filter to start. After that, I put the floss back in and it seemed fine. Did I do it right?

Looks okay to me. There's not much to it. As long as you are not restricting flow more than you would like or clogging up the impeller or biowheel, you should be fine.

My filter floss/polyester is folded up tight to about 1.5 inches high.

Just keep an eye on it, sometimes the floss seems to reach is capacity of particles and will restrict flow and possibly cause overflow.
