Oils it be helpful in any way to put an airstone in my W/D filter sump?

No need to put an airstone in the sump area of a W/D filter. As long as the water is trickling over the bio-balls then you are ok.

One more quick question, do you think I could increase the efficiency of my filter by putting java moss or some plants in the sump?

You will need lights down there for the plants. The best and most efficient thing to do for your fish is to do water changes.

But if you really want java moss, why not tie it to some driftwood and put it directly into the aquarium?

I am not really set on java moss, I was just Trying to get the best and most O2 and nutrient rich water coming out of my filter output. I maintain constant water changes, I just wanted to improve on the filtration if I could
