Can I put an elephant ear plant in my tank? Do I just cut off a little stem and put it in, and that question goes for any plant. Also, do live plants eat up any extra nutrients in the tank like the ones that contribute to diatoms "brown algae?"

Are you talking about like an actual elephant ear plant? Those things can get massive! Or are you talking about pothos or philodendron? I put some of my pothos and philodendrons in my hob filter and some with their roots hanging in the tank. Ive noticed the filter plants grow much quicker for me! I started with a maybe 6 inch cutting of pothos and its grown about 3 or 4 feet in a few months. They also keep my filter super clean. Im not sure about the diatoms but they might help with nitrates.
