They prefer snails but will eat flake and I believe algae wafers. They also eat biofilm but like I said live snails are much more preferred.

I've read you can feed them chopped beef heart if there are no snails. They need meaty food, and will not do well without it. They will prey on each other if nothing else is around.

Mine has been fine without meaty food for a long time now. Its just a myth.

Not to hijack, but I pull about 5-10 pond snails (small) our of our 6G Cyl Tank about every other day

Will 1 assassin snail help or should I get more?

Other inhabitants are 5 neon tetras and 2 otos and plants, plants, plants
