I got this fish and from day 1 he has been like this. Even in the tank at the store. He swims for a bit, eats then assumes the position. Any advice appreciated. I have some meds on hand if needed. He is in a qt tank right now. Thanks!

Aww, that's sad. :-( My guess would be a swim bladder issue, especially if he was like that in the store. Really clean water can help, and do you feed floating or slinking fish food?

Sometimes they can suck in a lot of air if it is on the surface, and that can make the flotation issue worse.

I feed him sinking pellets. I also have been giving him peas.

Soak your pellets before feeding. I know that sounds strange, but for floatiness issues, you have to do it.

And for one of my ryukins, that was not enough. I switched to gel food.

I also find spinach will move things along faster than peas.
