We recently set up our 60 gal. Freshwater tank and we have these brown spots coming up all over inside the tank. I understand this is some sort of beneficial bacteria, but is too much a bad thing? The tank is 2 weeks old, and I'm assuming an algae eater will take care of the mess, but do I want to wait and let the bacteria cycle through the tank and filter and stuff?

I have a fluval 306, shrimp, and a Cory cat.

It is not necessarily close to the window but I'm sure it gets sunlight slightly as the room lights up in the sun. does that mean this bacteria is not part of the cycle my tank is going through for the first month?

It could be diatoms. They will work themselves out eventually. You could just use an algae magnet or other type of cleaner to wipe the glass.
