Couldn't you dose the tank with ammo?
That would sustain the BB till you can stock the tank
As for how long it would last I'm really not sure but I wouldn't say too long.

You will definitely have some die off. But some will go into a dormant state and they will survive. As soon as there is some ammo's again they will become active again. The problem is that for them to become active can take up to a week.
Its this dormant phase that 'bacteria-in-a-bottle' products rely on. And as you can see its not very reliable.

I don't think they will die off for a couple of days. You could always put a dead shrimp in there.
