Best way to breed African cichlids

What ratio of males to females will give me the best chance of having successful spawns?
What type of aquascape makes them most comfortable?
Temperature?

I have a 225g display tank with about 2 inches of sand on the bottom and a couple rocks stacked in the back.

What species do you desire to breed? 1 male to 3 females is a good rule of thumb for most. Most will want some rock caves and cover to feel cofortable. I keep my African tanks at a steady 78°f.
