Betta hiding

So my betta is hiding in a small cave at the bottom of the tank...aren't they top swimmers

Mine swims on all levels on my 10 gallon, but he usually stays nearer to the bottom than to the top. Fish can be shy, it happens. Do you have plants? Other fish?

Yeah I have plants and some harlequin rasborias in a 40g

Maybe he just likes the cave. Mine has a terra cotta pot that he claimed as his. But, I have never tried a betta in a tank that big.

My bettas are rather fond of the spot behind the rock or better still, below the pre-filter sponge on my hob's uptake.

One of my bettas loves to swim around and follow my snail in his ten gallon, my other one however likes to hide in the decoration and usually will do so till i turn the filter off. I don't think he likes it haha
