I could not figure out why my tank had a bunch of bubbles floating in groups on top then I thought maybe my betta had built a bubble nest. I have no female though is this normal? Do males just build them and certain points?

Yes. They do this in hopes that a female will swim by and he can impress her with his nest building skills. This also is a good indication that your male is in good health. A sickly Betta won't build a nest. You don't need to anything about this unless you plan on breeding the fish. otherwise, just enjoy the bubbles. :D

Hope this helps (y)

Great! That takes a lot of weight off my shoulders knowing it's just some tears in his fins and not something more serious! :D
