Need some help on the best way to set up a Bio filter. I have a side tank filter with carbon and was wanting to know if there is something I can to.my sand and gravel sub. Or to the filter or any diys to keep the good stuff in.

Setting a bacterial bed is fairly easy but takes time. No matter what you do it's going to take a while. If your expecting fast results you can always use a filter cartridge from another tank that has cycled which will cut down in time significantly. Always have a filter running, don't clean until tank cycles, the more surface area, the better, so plants plants and more plants. Anything you have in contact with the water will help supply an area for bacteria.
