I only use floss/wool and sponges in my filters.
I have no bioballs or ceramic rings or matrix or Substrat Pro etc...

Do I really need these extra biofilter media?
Will good bacteria still grow in my tank without them?

You probably don't need the extra bio media (as long as you parameters are on target), but it certainly doesn't hurt. The bacteria will only grow to the extent that they support the bioload that you have in your tank (within reason) no matter how much bio media you have.

ok thanks.

I have lots of driftwood in my tank. I would assume lots of bacteria will grow on my decorations, if needed be.

Yes they do. And the last forever. It,s handy to have some boi rich bio balls around. New tank,Hosp,QT.
