Black Sand vs White Sand

Which do you prefer and why?

Black. It really pops the colors of plants and fish. White also is really bad about showing fish waste.

Ditto. White sand can look really good, but it does take a lot of house cleaning to keep it looking that way.

I wish I was good enough to aquascape with a white foreground. I think when done correctly it is dramatic, and when you consider you never have to replant the foreground may be overall less maintenance. So, black, because its easier, and many easy to plant in substrates, as well as soil, are black
