I'm currently using aquasoil in my 70litre but it's quite expensive and it's going to cost me a lot to fill my upgraded 41.5g tank. I asked at he fish store if there was a cheaper alternative like a black sand or something but I was told no. Is there any sand that's black I can use that will do just fine with live plants? I'm on a budget and I know I can get play sand etc. but I want black I just love black substrate.

You could look into blasting sand but I'm no pro at that as I personally use pool filter sand
