I've kept angels and discus but this is my first time keeping a blood parrot. He is very aggressive when I clean the tank. He repeatedly charges and bites my hand. It doesn't hurt real bad but it makes cleaning the tank very difficult. He is still young but I'm worried his biting will be a problem when bigger. Should I just remove him from the tank every time I clean it? Would this be less stressful on the fish? I know cichlids are aggressive but I've never had this problem before. Any advice would be appreciated.

mine did the same thing. They don't have teeth anyway, he can't hurt you. They look cute, but are aggressive fish. I would leave him in the tank..he will get used to you eventually

Have some one else distract him while you are cleaning.

Thanks for the advice. I'll stay away from removing him from the tank. I hope he gets use to my hand. He is very cute and I still love having him in my tank even though he is evil when I clean lol

thanks Kirkland and Sydney

I had a parrot the had a face like a normal red devil very cool looking but he was so mean he lasted only a few days in my tank beating on other fish twice his size. Brought him back to the LFS and they couldn't keep him with anything. Beauty though kind of wish I had room for another tank just for him.
