Hi, I'm a new member to the forum as well as to planted aquariums. I picked up a coral life light for cheap and it has blue LED moon lights. They look great at night. I know the actinic lights are bad and only promote unwanted algae growth but, what about the blue LED's?

Tank is empty at the moment. Still need to set up a co2 system and finish cleaning my drift wood before I start loading it up with plants.

Actinic lights have not been proven to cause algae anymore than a 5500-10k bulb, I run my blue LEDs during my photoperiod, plants like blues as much as whites and reds.. It's all photosynthesis;)

Thanks. I did research on the actinic lights and that's where I read that they promote algae growth. Maybe I should not have ruled them out without first hand experience.

So you're wanting to run the blues at night?? What do you have for the daylight periods?

I have 10k bulbs for day time.
