What is the difference anyhow other than shapes? Can I stock school of neon tetras and rainbow neon dwarf in a 30-40 gallon breeder tank??

See the link below, it comes down to the length and width (area). I consider 40B to be a great tank size. It's dimensions give you more surface area than a 55gal.

Usually breeder tanks are wider and shorter than the standard tank. Breeders give you a different option for lighting since the light is closer tot he plant than the standard tank.
Breeders are great for fishes that stays on the bottom of the tank. A 40g breeder has more footprint than a standard 55g.
