Bristle worm infestation!

Also u could have had a"nitrate pocket" under a rock and stirred it up and opened it by moving a rock and that might have killed your fish
 
As for the worms, I had the same overpopulation. I got an arrow crab, which looked pretty cool and hunted the worms for population control. Actually saw him catch one, hold it over his head, and rip it in 2 before eating it.
 
They are harmless, and the only reason they multiply like crazy is that there is way too much food for them.
Their population will rise and fall with the available food supply. You don't need to purchase a creature to eat them, you need to cut back on feeding. Common bristleworms don't eat corals, or anything else that isn't failing.
