It doesn't have to be a monster piece but they do appreciate a piece they can hang out on or under which is usually the case.

Sure. A small piece is better than no piece. Just be sure to boil it before you add it in the tank.

My pleco has been hanging on or around the filter tubes. Is this normal? I couldn't find him at all yesterday and i looked today and finally found him on the tube.
I don't have DW yet but i plan on getting some this weekend.

It could be up there for the oxygen. I have had many plecos that hung right under the spillway of my filter.

Boil till water Is free of tannins

Got the Dw in the tank and seems to be doing fine. The fish seem to love it.
