Please help ! I have a 55 gallon African cichlid tank setup running a API XP-L canister filter as well as a aqua clear 70 HOB filter. My lighting us (2 )24" Aqueon fluorescent lights. I have black backing on both sides as well as the back of tank to block out any daylight outside sunlight. What can I do to eliminate the brown algae. I should also mention I have plastic plants and slate rock caves and currently the tank lights are on about 15 hours a day.

Thank you !

Maybe cut your light usage by a few hours. If the tank is getting even ambient sunlight, it may be too much. You can rinse your decor under scalding tap water to kill algae, then clean it from decor with a clean, damp sponge. Your best bet to keep it from coming back though, is regular water changes, and less time with lights on.
