Brown things growing on live sand

I've had my tank for about 2 months and now there is a layer of brown things growing on my live sand what is it? And how do I get rid of it

If it is a brown tint to the sand, its diatoms (google pics). If it is, let it go. Diatoms are a bacteria that eat silicates in the sand. Once they eat it all, they'll dissapear. Snails will eat them in the mean time.
