Brown ugly stuff all over my tank!!!

I need a few professionals here. I looked all over the internet. I could not find any helpful information about brown algae.

Is brown algae good or bad?

Can brown algae contribute to anything?

Do I need to remove it? how?

Can brown algae produce oxygen?

Brown algae is called diatoms, and it's from excess silicates. Water changes will help, or wait until the diatoms absorb all of the excess silicates.

Some fish will peck at it.

If you don't like it you can scrape it off.
