Building an aquarium

I am planning on building an aquarium this summer. It is still in the planning process so any suggestions would be nice. My plans are having it 5 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet tall. I am also thinking about on one side, have a 2 feet by 2 feet add on top to create an open bottom effect. The glass will be 1/2" plate glass.

If you haven't done so, price out the glass. It's almost always cheaper to buy an aquarium than build one. If you're set on building one, look up plywood aquariums.

I have called around and i found glass for a great price. It will be cheaper to build this aquarium than buy it

Make sure the glass is of acceptable quality. By that I mean clarity and strength.

Is a good calculator, obviously as your glass is 1/2 and not 3/8ths some changes would have to be made.
