If you don't want to have baby guppies or baby mollies (new aquarium, only aquarium, I've planned my future fish purchases with aqadvisor as a guideline to a stocking level of 100%), would you suggest I buy all male or all female? Or, still stick to aqadvisor's recommended 1:2 male:female ratio?

(Right now, I have bought my first 3 fish, 3 Zebra Danio's, the employee at the LFS couldn't tell the sex)

All male. Most the guppies and some mollies at the pet store are already pregnant if with males.

Or, get males and females and bring the fry to the LFS? Would that be smarter/better?

Most of your fry won't survive anyways unless your have lots of cover and hiding spots for them

Is it a planted tank? If you have lots of hiding places then the fry might survive to bring to the lfs, otherwise they'll be eaten by the adults. Fresh food is always good. And since they don't live that long, it might be nice to have your own supply of replacement fish if you do try to save some fry.

I think they're less aggressive in mixed sex tanks but if fry as food bothers you then stick to males only.

I have some plastic plants that are between 4" and 12" all at the bottom of the 36G tank. This is my first tank, I'm not sure if fry as food would bother me. I've seen my Grandpa' tank have baby fry in them and they were so cute! I would need not to name the fry though :/ What is the general consensus on this? Buy mixed sex tanks, or all female/all male?
