Can I do this with leftover Seachem Matrix?

Hey guys... I just added a bag of Purigen and some Matrix to my Fluval C3 HOB. Also crammed some into a small in tank filter on a 10 gallon that I have earmarked for a betta when it finishes cycling. I have a bunch of matrix left over, I was wondering can I just add it to the substrate, just dump it in the tank? I have gravel in both tanks.

can't think of any reason why not, it isn't going to hurt anything and will still provide surface area for BB.
