Can RCS lose eggs?

Once of my RCS finally molted and put the eggs on her swimmers, and I noticed one came loose. I looked again a couple hours later, and it seems like the number of eggs has been reduced significantly.
 
Yeah, they drop them all the time. They can start out with 50 or so and you might be lucky to end up with half that number.
 
Thanks for the replies... How would they know that they're infertile?
