Can this hurt my puffer

I feed my porcupine puffer clams on the half shell . I Usually leave the clam in there because after he eats it he circles it and chews on the shell. I take it out after a half hour. Can he injure his beak like that? He really seems to enjoy attacking it like that but I don't want him to hurt himself.

you coulod leave it in until it broke down,they need the shell to keep there beaks trimmed

Ok I'll let him chew it for a while. His beak is very trimmed down. He eats alot of clams krill And shrimp with the shells hermits and snails. I can barely see his beak when I look so I think he is in good shape
