I believe you can - however I have successfully dosed 2x the larger dose on the bottle, daily for one week to eradicate algae. Worked great. Was basically 2-3ml of Excel in a 3-gallon daily for one week. YMMV
Yes, don't overdose by too much. You will know when it's too much when the fish start to surface for air. I've done it before, and rushed a full-blown PWC. And by then, it's usually too late. I usually dose to 2x max myself.
Yes, I had some tetras and GBR's die when I accidently overdosed. I had done a plant dip, and then put some of the dip solution in the tank, and I guess it was too much. Within 5 minutes, the fish were surfacing.
