Canister Media Order

Quick question on the best flow for a canister filter, I have an eheim pro 4 so the dirty water travels from bottom to clean top and to the tank.

Should I put the filter pads first on the bottom keep the media clean or should I let the gunk run through the filter with the last stop being the pads?

Not sure how the baskets are on the eheim and how much media you have to move but I would go (from bottom to top) Filter floss/pad, then bio, then bio/floss/pad, then chemical if you're using it (carbon or similar)

It has 4 baskets right now I have from bottom to top mechanical, two levels of different types of bio then filter is last.


I’ll swap them around and give it a try so the floss gets the crud first and does having two layers of different media make a difference?
