I got a 15 # bag of this sand after reading its great for biologic filtration but I am getting confussed.

Is it a saltwater only product or can I/do I need to use it in my FW tank??

If I'm right, that would only be used for either SW or for FW with fish that prefer higher ph, as in cichlids. I believe the argonite will raise the ph of the water.

yes, its for saltwater, or cichlids. Its supposed to raise the pH, but i have it, and my pH is kinda low in my saltwater tank, but then again, i completely washed all the dust and stuff out of the sand first and i think you're sposed to leave it, so that might be why i have low pH.

mainly it raises the carbonate hardness..aka alkalinity. and as alk raises, pH goes up with it.

honestly even if you had hard water, the sand isn't gonna be a problem. biggest issue is that its more expensive than a bag of playsand from home depot. but the carib sea sand will be easier on bottom dwellers, and you could put plants in it if you want.
