I have a 29 gallon saltwater tank. I live in the Florida Keys, marathon, and am going to catch my own fish for my tank. I want to have a journal of the livestock I catch. Currently I have 1 banded cleaner shrimp, 1 spotted cleaner shrimp, 3 high hat's, 2 juvenile blue angelfish, 1 juvenile queen angelfish, 1 colon goby, some hermit crabs and a juvenile grey angelfish.

For corals I have one recordia and one radioactive dragon eye.

Follow this thread as I will make periodic updates of my catch.

Here are pics of some of the livestock

Umm, I live in Florida as well but I dont think its legal to take fish from the ocean, other than lionfish die to them taking over the waters down here.

Believe me I did my research there are some limitations but its 20 fish per day no more than 5 can be angelfish and no more than 10 can be the same. I got this info from the FWC website so I believe it. Believe it or not your can harvest some corals.

Thats pretty cool you catch your own fish. I was going to ask how you catch them but you already answered that. How does that thing work? Is it basically a big syringe?

It is a vacuum when you pull back and it draws in water and hopefully a little fish but they are hard to use because you have to get it so close to the fish. Some fish are actually pretty dumb and somewhat swim right in.

Yes I personally caught all my family's lobster on mini season except 3. Had bugs last night for dinner lol

I know very little about saltwater, but this thread sounds like it'll be pretty awesome, so i'm following along!

Yes I will be constantly changing out livestock. Thx for following along this tank is my start towards the career of my dreams. Icthiologist the study of rays sharks eels and fish.

I can second this, as I have had out of state Florida fishing licenses before. He's doing it right! I'm following, btw! I went to collect myself, but due to all the storms and not having a slurp gun I couldn't catch much other than a moon snail.

Sorry to here that all you have to do to catch legaly is stay out off state parks. :) believe it or not the Florida keys is home to the 3rd larger reef in the world.

Awesome thread, I wish I could do this down here in valley, This is a genius idea and your preserving wildlife as well. I'm happy for you, I'm definitely subbed
