Caves?

I have a 30g Hex in wich I plan on getting 3 black KLs and 3 KLs and I wanted to do black sand with a ton of medium sized black rocks stacked up to form a huge cave system. Its already bad enough that they are nocturnal but would I never see my Kuhlie Loaches if I put a boat load of hiding spots in this tank? Also could I potentially get a small group of Green Tiger Barbs?

IME you are more likely to see your fish if you give them plenty of places to hide. I wouldn't keep tiger barbs with kuhlis, as I feel that the loaches would be almost impossible to feed with the barbs around.
