I recently bought 6 of these fish from an online vendor. They all see really happy and healthy but I noticed that there was only one female in the group. The owner of my LFS said that the males said that the males would kill the female by their constant advances. Is this true and if so is there anything I can do other than separating them? The tank is a 36 gallon bow front densely planted, but with small plants.

They wouldn't necessarily kill her. They would likely cause tons of stress and probably beat up on her, though. It's best to keep them in equal ratios in even numbers such as 6 or 8 or a single sex in odd numbers such as 5 or 7.
