30 gal. hex, has 2- "screw in" type blulbs, NOT a tube. Pretty good amount of plants are in the tank, but all are low-medium light plants. I can give you the exact if neccesary.
Not sure on how cfl bulbs work. So this is my question.
I installed 2- 40 watt Ecobulb Daylight 580 Lumens
These work or do I need to switch to a "regular type" bulb?

so 2 10w bulbs or 40w equivalent daylight bulbs?

the cfl is your best bet but if its really 2 10w bulbs you might need to get a couple higher watt bulb. on the cfl bulbs they put the big number which tends to be the equivalent number and not the actual one.

I'd just watch your plants to see how they do in it. I've got 2 13 watt cfl over my 10g and my plants do great in it. Not sure about a 30g though.

I've got CFLs over both my 29g and my 20L. The plants do very well. I think I've got two 18W daylight CFLs in each fixture. It's a little dim on the 29g, but the 20L is very bright. I deforested the tank last weekend and actually took my T5 fixture off the tank because the CFLs are putting plenty of light in. I figure maybe I'll slow the plant's growth a little.
