Changing canister for first time help

Ok i just vacuumed cleaned and change my water in my salt tank.

I have a marine land 220 canister. Do i replace all the media or rinse it?

I wouldn't replace it. If you rinse it, rinse it in water from the tank so you don't kill off the bacteria. Fresh water will kill the bacteria in your media.

What I usually do is just clean the filter pad and don't touch anything else.

I agree. Just rinse the pad in system water, not fresh water.

Thanks thats what i thought but wanted to check. At what point do you ever replace the media?

I replace the pads when, after cleaning, they still look dirty. I change out my carbon every 4-6 weeks.
