I'm pretty sure I have a male and a female because one fits the description you gave for males and the other doesn't. The other (female) is also more colored and a bit bigger.
That sounds correct! On the bigger one. Keep an eye open for a more pale reddish to orange spot, called being saddled, when the shrimp will mate, probably see him swimming all around in the tank, and after 7 to 10 days appx. you'll see some eggs if all went well.
