I have noticed my Afra cobue circling each other for a while and I thought maybe I should set up a fry tank before its too late.

What would be needed for a fry tank? I was thinking of getting the following
5-10g tank
Sponge filter
Heater
Thermometer

Are lights going to be necessary?
Do I need to keep the tank running? Or can I just put tank water and run the sponge the day of the spit?

Well, you'll probably get a lot of fry. A twenty gallon long would give them enough room to grow until you get get rid of them.
I wouldn't suggest a 10 gallon.
