I'm probably not going to switch anytime soon, but I'm curious if it's even possible or a good idea? Since my tap water has a PH of about 8.0 and is fairly hard, it seems that African Cichlids would be an ideal choice for me. Can you keep any species of Cichlid in a 29 Gallon, long term? That's 30 inches long, 12 inches deep, 18 inches high.

Mostly certain species as just pairs, which I can't think of off the top of my head.

Also shelldwellers; my 20 gallon has a colony of neolamprologus multifasciatus.

Maybe some dwarf species like demasoni or Afra Cobue. And it'll be best to be a species only tank also

Anything thats realistically going to stay 4" and less would be fine. There's loads of cichlids at that size, although i think a lot of the Africans get bigger.

Would a single pair of Kribensis work if they were the only fish in there? Or do they need more room to swim?

2 or 3 kenyi cichlids should do fine
