I have a relatively newer 60 gallon tank with a wet dry filter. It's fish only with artificial decorations. I am now experiencing a serious growth of brown algae, and my water (about ever other week) turns clowdy. I think the water gets that way because of the nitrates, so I treat it as a signal that a water change is needed.

My question: Is it worth picking up a cleaning crew? And if so, what type and what should be included in that kit?

A clean up crew MAY help with the algae. It sounds like diatoms. If you spend money on a CuC and the algae grows faster than they can eat, you may be wasting your money.

Do you use RO/DI water?
Your tap water may have nitrates and phosphates which are fuel for the diatoms.
