About once a month, I use a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar to clean out my cleaning supplies and hoses, followed by hot tap water to rinse. I won't say that it's the proper thing to do, but it keeps my cleaning hoses looking fairly good, and the strong acid content of the vinegar should help kill at least some bacteria.
I know some people use a solution of 10% bleach/90% water to clean their supplies, but I would be worried about residual bleach if it isn't rinsed well enough.
