Is running the co2 through a cigarette filter, then directly into your intake on a canister filter a good way to dissolve the co2?

I suppose that's a better method than a lot of DIY setups. A powerhead is going to be your best bet. As long as your canister doesn't have a spray bar up above the surface, that should be ok though.
