I have a planted low tech tank with 2 t5 bulbs they are the standard bulbs that came with the tank I believe they are the 45w day and nature bulbs. I would like to try a coloured bulb but not sure if this is A ok in planted tanks and B if so which one must remain in the tank. Any advice greatly appreciated

A colored bulb will cut down on lighting for plants AFAIK depending on what color you get. What size is your tank ? What plants do you want to grow ?

Why do you want a colored light ?
You can add blue LEDs later for a nightlight.

Was purely from an aesthetics aspect so maybe I will look at some extra LEDs for the time being. I don't really wanna cut down on the lights for the plant growth
